Lake Sylvan DOC campground is on the Queenstown door step of the Routeburn Track and DOC have done a great job improving facilities for campers this summer.
Just 10 minutes drive down from the Routeburn Shelter, Lake Sylvan campground sits just inside the Mt Aspiring National Park boundary near Glenorchy. DOC improvements include a toilet block, running water, tent and campervan sites, plus picnic areas which will be shaded as time goes by when the newly planted trees grow taller. All this, in a beautiful setting for just $6 per adult per night. Children 5-17 are just $3 and under 5 are FREE.
Lake Sylvan is a small lake in Mt Aspiring National Park surrounded by native beach forest. It can be reached via a short walk 40 minute walk through the forest which starts with a large swing bridge at the campground.
Lake Sylvan DOC camping area is a great place to camp before or after your Routeburn Track walk.
