Gunn’s Camp is a great base for visiting Milford Sound or exploring some of the many day/multi day hikes around the area.

Gunn’s camp, situation right next to the Hollyford River is a Fiordland hidden gem. No phone, no internet, just the wilderness to grab your attention. The camp is powered by generator in the mornings/evenings and cabins have coal ranges for heating and a superb atmosphere in the evenings. No Eftpos either – cash is the preferred payment method – however credit card as accepted as well. As you may gather this isn’t really the place for stiletto’s or fine dining – but plenty of good times to be had with friends and family.
Choose one of the many local day walks or browse the Hollyford Museum which is overflowing with human history and tales of hardship within previous way of life. Gunn’s Camp has its own personality to entertain you during your stay. Choose from private cabins, backpacker accommodation or bring your camper/ tent along. Plenty of accommodation options at very reasonable prices.
Facilities include:
- Flush toilets and hot showers
- Gas cookers in the kitchen
- Wood and coal for the fires in the cabins
- Emergency petrol if you are running low
You can even charge your camera battery when the generator is running!
If you are planning to walk the Hollyford Track stay at Gunn’s camp once you have finished to top off you Hollyford Valley experience. Easyhike will transfer your car from Milford to the Hollyford road end so it is waiting for you when you finish the track – you could be just minutes away from that long awaited hot shower!
